Life seems all smooth and straight, but in reality, a good life is neither assured nor promised. Living on your own might appear an easy task until you are struck with some sort of tragedy. We sometimes enjoy life so much that we forget we would have to go at a point.

In this piece, we have put together some images that serve as constant reminders of the fact that we will not live forever. For each of these shots, a lasting tragedy was witnessed moments after they were taken. For every celebrity mentioned in this post, these pictures were taken moments before their death. That is, for each picture is an associated tragedy.

Freddy Mercury passed away in 1991, from an AIDS-induced bronchial pneumonia. This shot is the last picture taken of him.

Five days before his death, Jim Morrison is pictured here posing with his girlfriend, Pamela Courson.

Here is Jimi Hendrix and his favorite instrument, “Black Betty”. The picture was taken a day prior to his death.

Keith Moon, the Who drummer, poses at dinner. He later died on September 7, 1978 as a result of overdosing on a drug prescribed to help his alcohol addiction.

Jesse Frohman took these photos of Kurt Cobain, before his death in 1994. Kurt committed suicide.

Taken on the red carpet of the 61st Academy Awards in 1989, this is the last picture taken of Lucille Ball.

On the weekend preceding her death, Marilyn Monroe visited Frank Sinatra and Buddy Greco. She later died on August t, 1962.

Moments after this shot, Andy Kaufman died of a very rare type of lung cancer.

Here is Mark Twain. His last words, found in a note by his deathbed, read – “Death, the only immortal who treats us all alike, whose pity and whose peace and whose refuge are for all — the soiled and the pure, the rich and the poor, the loved and the unloved.”

Having served as the Prime Minister of the UK from 1979 to 1990, Margaret Thatcher later died from stroke at the age of 87.

Here is the last known picture of the Space Shuttle Challenger Crew. The shot was taken moments before they boarded the space shuttle. 73 seconds into the launch, tragedy struck. The O-ring of the shuttle in its right booster failed. This caused the Solid Rocket Booster to disintegrate. The orbiter later broke due to extreme aerodynamic forces. Though the crew compartment survived the break, the impact with the surface of the ocean was too violent to be able to live through.

Taken moments before his eventual death, this picture shows Tiny Tim. He later collapsed and died just after his last performance.

While taking a walk outside his hotel in Arizona, the Ultimate Warrior born James Brian Hellwig (legally Just Warrior) suffered a fatal clear heart attack.

This picture was the last taken of Jennie Rivera. It was taken on a plane moments before take-off. It was posted to Instagram by Yebale, alongside a caption that read “We getting Back To Mexico City, Jenni Rivera, Arturo, Gigi and Me. Los Amooo!” The plane, which had a history of fuel system issues, later crashed 10 minutes into the air. Everyone was killed.

Taken three days prior to its sinking, here is the last known picture of RMS Titanic. It was pictured leaving Queenstown (Cobh), Ireland on April 12th, 1912, where it had stopped before departing westwards towards New York. 1,514 people died after the ship was found at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean. It was said to have collided with an iceberg, and the incident remains one of the greatest peacetime maritime disasters of all time.

Paramahansa Yogananda died while giving a famous speech at a dinner somewhere in Los Angeles. Before his death, he was an Indian guru and yogi. He introduced Kriya Yoga and the power of meditation to the western world, via his book – Autobiography of a Yogi.

This picture was taken on the night of September 26th 1986. It was taken backstage at the Solnahallen Arena in Sweden, and is the last of Cliff Burton.

This photo of George Lincoln Rockwell was taken moments after John Patler shot him dead. Rockwell founded the American Nazi Party and was a major figure in the neo-Nazi movement in the United States. Though he is no more, but his writings and beliefs are indelible among white nationalists and neo-Nazis.

Benazir Bhutto is seen standing in the sunroof of her bulletproof vehicle while waving at the crowd. A few seconds after the shot, a gunman fired shots at her, while a bomb detonated right next to her vehicle, claiming the lives of about 20 people. Bhutto suffered critical wounds from the incident and later died in surgery a few hours later. She was a popular figure in the Pakistani politics.

Here is Leonard Nimoy, an actor in the popular Star Trek, rushing to the hospital with severe chest pains.

Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein. Hip-Hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash provided the source quote for the famous DJ’s last tweet on Aug. 25, 2009: “New York, New York. Big city of dreams, but everything in New York ain’t always what it seems.”

On July 12, 2013, star actor Cory Monteith cracked, “What the crap is Sharknado?” “Oh. IT’S A SHARK TORNADO”. He died the next day from a drug overdose.

74-year-old Dennis Hopper was a veteran actor and a popular one at that. However, his final tweet before his demise showed that fame hadn’t jaded him. He tweeted, on May 4, 2009, “In Japan there’s a 20-foot picture of me endorsing one of my favorite hotels.” “Seeing it is surreal. PS.: Stay there, put food on my table!”

Five days before her demise, 86-year-old renowned poet – Maya Angelou, urged in a message, “Listen to yourself, and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God.”

Heavy D was a popular rapper. Before his demise on November 8, 2011, he left a simple message in his final tweet, “BE INSPIRED!”

One thing is sure in this life; we will all leave this mortal planet. Though when or where it will happen remains considerably uncertain, the uncertainty will never stop it from happening.
